Delivering
Effective Training Workshop
A 2 day workshop that focuses on the skills of delivering pre-designed
training effectively
About the workshop
This workshop is intended for staff involved in
delivering pre-designed training sessions to support the introduction
of new systems, technology or working practices.
It aims to help participants develop or refresh
the essential training skills needed to deliver training courses,
briefings, workshops or other face to face presentations confidently
and effectively in a participative style.
It does not address in any substantial way issues
of training needs analysis or training design, assuming this work
has been done by others in the project team.
As well as building training skills, the programme
can be structured to help familiarise participants with the design
and content of sessions they will be delivering and provide opportunities
to practice delivering aspects of these.
Group size
Usually 6-8 participants with a single tutor
Methods
The workshop is informal, practical and participative
in nature. Through exercises, demonstrations and guided discussion
participants explore how to ensure the training they deliver is
engaging and effective for learners. There are opportunities to
practice and refine different methods of training delivery relevant
to their project. We can provide materials and resources for some
practice work but also encourage participants to practice using
their own content and materials.
Programme aims
The workshop aims to help participants:
» Develop
their understanding of how to help people learn through training
»
Develop their skills in delivering
group training using participative methods
»
Practice their delivery and
get feedback on style and effectiveness
»
Increase their 'tool kit'
of ideas, skills and approaches to training delivery
»
Gain confidence in their ability
to work participatively in training settings
Workshops can also be designed to help participants:
»
Find out more about the training
modules they will be delivering
»
Practice delivery of an element
of one aspect of a training session
»
Identify personal actions
needed to get ready to deliver their training
Pre-course work
To make best use of time available during the
workshop, participants may be asked to complete the Learning Styles
Questionnaire in advance of the workshop, read a short article about
making training and learning effective and/or complete a self assessment
of their training skills and learning needs.
Duration
2 days, typically 09.30 - 17.30. Note there may
be some evening work needed to prepare delivery of practical sessions
for day 2.
Indicative programme
The workshop runs in a coaching style and
the programme may change to meet the needs and interests of participants
on the day.
